SILVERTOWN MINT VISIT

WINCHESTER, IN

The NorthWest Detroit Coin Club, of Livonia,  got a special up close and behind the scenes tour of the SilverTowne Mint, in Winchester, In. Club members got to see employees pour hot pure silver into molds, and how silver becomes silver coins and bars. They toured the smelting plant and back storage rooms, which includes a vault with $15m in gold and silver and another vault like area that contains mint and proof sets. Members then were able to visit the enameling room, the graphic arts room and finally the showroom where they could buy some of what they had seen created.

WANTED !!...SilverTowne Mint executives are looking for these four (4) guys...(Sitting) Ronald Beier - Northville, (L) Gary Kelly - Canton, Don Charters - Wayne, and Curtis Scott - Garden City. They want to know Why? - after they touched and were photographed with these newly minted Buffalo 1oz, .999 silver rounds - that were worth $40.27 each, Tuesday (9-20-11), after the NorthWest Detroit Coin Club (NWDCC) (Livonia) member tour, are now worth only $36.25 - on Thursday (9-22-11). The NWDCC members got an tour of the factory and Mint. The SilverTowne Mint is in Winchester, In, and specializes in Challenge and Commemorative coins. The NWDCC meets every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the Month, at the Livonia Senior Center, Farmington  Rd - Five Mile Rd, and everyone is welcome - if you have a coin collection bring it in for appraisal.

Rare photographs from inside SilverTowne Mint....
Creative genius...Steve Graft, is a dye designer for SilverTowne Mint, in Winchester, In. He is one of the staff artists, that creates the images that appear on the Mint silver rounds, challenge and commemorative coins that are sold world wide on the Mint's cable TV show, Coin Vault, the internent and at the SilverTowne Mint showroom, which is open to the public. Graft is cutting a dragon - for a 2012 Year of the Dragon coin, for a custom order.
Members of the NorthWest Detroit Coin Club got a special tour of SilveTowne and a chance to see how a coin is created, minted and sold, along with a behind the scenes tour of the Mint.

Hot silver 1200 - 1300 degrees...Trent Cross pours unrefined silver into molds, that when cooled, will be sent to a refiner to create, .999 pure silver. Members of the NorthWest Detroit Coin Club (Livonia, Mi) got a special pre-arranged tour of the SilverTown Mint, located in Winchester, In. The Mint specializes in Challenge and Commemorative coins but also makes a variety of other items using gold, silver, copper, brass and nickel silver. Hot hot hot....up to 2000 degrees, Caleb Abel, a melter for the SilverTowne Mint, pours .999 pure silver into a caster that makes a silver strip, that will eventually become a one (1) ounce bar of pure silver. SilverTowne is located in Winchester, In, and has a showroom that will please any coin collector, and it has special - pre arranged tours. SilverTowne specializes in Challenge and Commemorative coins and also makes a variety of other silver coins. Members of the NorthWest Detroit Coin Club took a tour of the facility recently.
